Livonia Outpatient Surgery Center Achieves AAAHC Accreditation

LIVONIA, Mich. – August 31, 2021 – Livonia Outpatient Surgery Center (LOSC), a partner of Sunvera Group, has been accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Accreditation distinguishes this ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery center from many other outpatient facilities through its adherence to rigorous standards of care and safety. The LOSC has held this designation since 2011.

“Our accreditation status means the Livonia Outpatient Surgery Center has met nationally recognized quality standards set by the AAAHC,” says Dr. David Ellenberg, a vitreoretinal disease and surgery specialist and medical director of the LOSC. “Patients who receive surgical care with us can be confident that they are receiving the highest level of care, next to zero infection rates, and are being treated with the most advanced technology.”

The AAAHC spearheaded a transformational movement and call-to-action, called 1095 Strong, to equip ambulatory leaders with what they need to operationalize quality practices. The three-year, or 1,095-day, period between accreditation is a critical time when ambulatory health organizations develop everyday habits that allow industry leaders to provide the utmost quality of care to patients. Organizations, such as Livonia Outpatient Surgery Center, that earn AAAHC accreditation embody the spirit of 1095 Strong and show an ongoing commitment to patient safety.

While the onsite survey is an important component of the process, ongoing compliance and continuous improvement are part of the accreditation maintenance mindset that a facility should integrate into its daily activities long after the survey has been completed. The intent of accreditation is for organizations to adopt policies and procedures that fuel ongoing quality improvement and self-evaluation every day.

“The AAAHC is meant to ensure and inspire excellence in healthcare,” says Jennifer Bednarchik, chief operating officer at Livonia Outpatient Surgery Center. “While our team put in a tremendous amount of work leading up to and during the survey, it is work that we continually practice with each and every patient encounter. We are proud to bring the highest level of ophthalmic surgical care to southeast Michigan.”

Ambulatory health care organizations seeking AAAHC accreditation undergo an extensive self- assessment and onsite survey by AAAHC expert surveyors – physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory care. The survey is peer-based and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
